The third-generation Audi TT Roadster arrives just in time for warmer spring days, priced from $81,500. Complementing the recently-launched TT coupe, the rag-top brings the new TT Roadster brings sharper lines and a roof that folds in a swift ten seconds.
It’s presently a two-model lineup, with the base Roadster Sport sitting underneath a more luxurious TT Roadster S-Line, which sees the cost rise $7,500 to $89,000.
Along with the TT Coupe, the Roadster debuts Audi’s innovative new Virtual Cockpit dials concept: instead of a traditional speedometer and tachometer, there’s a vibrant 12.4-inch screen displaying your dials plus a huge navigation screen, or audio options.
The Sport and S-Line share the TT coupe’s two-litre turbocharged petrol four, coupled to a six-speed S tronic double-clutch automatic gearbox. There’s standard Quattro all-wheel-drive for more spirited and grippy handling, plus faster acceleration: the Roadster’s 0-100 sprint dips to 5.6 seconds. That’s thanks to the 169kW of power (up 14kW) and 370Nm (up 20Nm) on tap. Efficiency is improved, with fuel consumption down 10% to 6.7L/100km.
Plus, the rag-top has obvious appeal in Australia with a folding mechanism that works at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
The price hasn’t gone up for the base TT Roadster model, despite Audi bundling $8,000 in new equipment inclusions. Opt for the base model, and there’s still plenty of kit. Aside from the Virtual Cockpit, you’ll find heat-retaining, electrically-adjustable, heated leather and alcantara seats; bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights; a wind deflector; and 18-inch wheels.
The S-Line package brings sportier exterior styling and larger, 19-inch wheels. There’s also crisper LED headlights on the S-Line, plus sports seats with air-adjustable bolsters, and an uprated 155W sound system with DAB+ digital radio capability.
