Flagship A6 Allroad wagon blends trail-capable suspension and Quattro drive system with 270kW plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time
Audi Europe has today confirmed its fifth-generation A6 Allroad, which follows along a lineage of lifted, multi-terrain-focused Audi wagons sporting bespoke suspension, increased ground clearance, and Quattro AWD.
Initially debuting in Germany as part of Audi’s current ‘C9’ A6 generation, the forthcoming Allroad is set to start from 77,250 euros ($AUD 127,000), as one of very few lifted luxury off-road wagons left on sale.
It will rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain (in the absence of the now-discontinued Volvo V90 Cross Country), and sits as a premium alternative to the likes of the Subaru Outback that fall short to the Allroad’s luxury, performance, and price.
It’s currently unclear if the Allroad — or any C9 A6 variant — is under consideration for Australia, though EV-only A6 products have been ruled out locally by the four-ringed brand.
In Europe, the A6 Allroad will be offered in a choice of plug-in hybrid or diesel power. Configurations are either a 270kW/500Nm 2.0-litre four cylinder PHEV or 220kW/580Nm 3.0-litre V6 diesel. Both drivetrains fit automatic transmissions and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The PHEV drivetrain claims a combined fuel consumption of 2.9-2.6L/100km and a claimed EV-only driving range of 95km. It fits a 25.9kWh battery and claims an all-out 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.5 seconds. All figures shown here are WLTP.
Charging the PHEV system is limited to AC power only, peaking at 11kW. Resultantly, a full-from-empty charge should take around two hours and thirty minutes.
In combustion-land, the V6 diesel claims a combined fuel economy of 5.8-6.4L/100km, thanks in part to Audi’s starter-generator mild-hybrid tech. The system supports some regenerative braking capabilities, ‘sailing’, and provides assistance to the diesel motor.
Sprinting from 0-100km/h in Audi’s oil-burner takes a claimed 5.4 seconds.
The C9 A6 Allroad measures 5016mm long, 1986mm wide, and 1479mm tall, meaning its body is 11mm wider than the standard A6 and its wheeltrack 74mm wider. It fits 19-inch wheels as standard with the option of larger 21s.
Like any generation of A6 Allroad, the C9 generation promises to be genuinely capable off the beaten track – irrespective of drivetrain. All grades feature adaptive air suspension, increasing ground clearance (by as much as 34mm), all-wheel steering, underbody protection, and roof rails.
Interior highlights include an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, and optional 10.9-inch passenger display.
Further details surrounding the Audi A6 Allroad, including equipment lists and grade walks, will be revealed in the event of a local launch.
