Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed that the long-awaited second-generation Roadster will be officially unveiled on October 1st in the US, or 10.30AM on October 2nd (AEST) in Australia.
According to reuters, Musk posted on social media platform X the message “New Tesla Roadster Unveil 10.01” as well as other teaser intel.
Over the weekend, various global Tesla websites, including Australia’s, introduced a Roadster page complete with a countdown timer – in regional time – for the online reveal. The page includes an obscure image to what appears to be the rear end of the vehicle.
It has been nine years since initial prototypes of the second-generation Roadster were unveiled, in November 2017. Tesla (and Musk) initially suggested the production version would arrive in 2020 – and later 2023 – but the flagship sportscar model has, to date, yet to materialise.
Unlike the original, two-seat, first-generation Lotus Elise-based electric sportscar, the reimagined gen-two Roadster has long been expected to transform into a four-seat carbon-fibre hypercar.

It’s unclear how closely the latest, presumably production iteration of Roadster will adhere to its original 2017 specification claims, including 0-97km/h acceleration of 1.9 seconds, 8.9sec 0-400km/h performance and around 1000km of range courtesy of a 200kWh battery. All remain leading edge EV stats in 2026.
It’s been widely reported in mainstream media that a ‘SpaceX’ edition – in corporate tie-in with Musk’s rocket company interests – may be equipped with a sort of cold-gas thruster technology.
There’s been no official confirmation that the imminent reveal will be of the production version, or yet another prototype. Nor is there any indication that, like Cybertruck, a production version is confirmed for Australian release.
