After just a year on sale, a clean-sheet H7 with plug-in power is coming, more adventurous than the last
The GWM Haval H7 might be new to Australia, but the Chinese conglomerate is already teasing an all-new one.
Ahead of the Everything Electric show in Sydney, starting on 18th September, GWM Australia has released some details of its new Haval H7, revealing a considerably boxier car than the angular current model.
Currently front-wheel drive, the H7’s more rugged looks are backed up by all-wheel drive this time, delivered through GWM’s ‘Hi4’ plug-in hybrid system shared with the upcoming Cannon hybrid.
Though Australian specs and prices are far off, in China (where it’s called the Haval Raptor) it’s offered with up to 330kW and 750Nm.
A 35.4kWh battery provides 151km of range under the WLTP cycle.
Off-road chops appear to be a significant focus, with a locking rear differential, full-size spare wheel and specific driving modes for mud, sand and snow.
The current Haval H7 retails for $46,990 driveaway, about the same as the range-topping new H7 in China (CN¥208,800, or AU$43,400). Chinese cars are rarely as big a bargain overseas as they are abroad, so expect this price to rise for Australia.
