2019 Hyundai i30 N Fastback confirmed for Australia

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has confirmed that the just-revealed 2019 Hyundai i30 N Fastback will be launched locally in the first half of 2019. An alternative bodystyle to the i30 hatchback, the i30 Fastback has been on sale in Europe since the current i30 was released there and the N marks the first time it will be offered in Australia.

Using the same 202kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and six-speed manual transmission as the i30 N hatchback, the i30 N Fastback adds a bodystyle choice that hot hatch buyers are rarely offered.

According to Hyundai Australia, “The sophisticated five-door Fastback N is the second high-performance model from Hyundai’s N Performance division, following on from its sibling the i30 N hot-hatch, which arrived in Australia in March to critical acclaim.”

“The new i30 Fastback N wraps the stunning high-performance capability and immense driver appeal of the i30 N in a newly sporty five-door GT coupe shape.”

Because the i30 N hatchback is made in the same Czech factory as the i30 Fastback, Australia will be offered the choice in bodystyle – a choice they’ve not been offered so far on the current generation of i30. The i30 Fastback is longer than the i30 hatchback, and offers 450-litres of bootspace with the rear seats upright and 1,351-litres with them folded – 55- and 50-litres more than the hatchback, respectively.

Pricing and equipment levels are yet to be announced, though will likely remain fairly similar to the current i30 N hatchback, which is priced from $39,990 plus on-road costs. Hyundai Australia has a back order for the i30 N hatchback, and offering the Fastback may help the issue. Also predicted for the Australian i30 range is the N-Line, which takes the styling cues of the i30 range without its engine – it may replace the SR in the i30 range.
