Smallest Leapmotor yet set to undercut BYD Atto 2
Euro-Chinese brand Leapmotor is targeting a sub-$30,000 drive-away price for its new compact electric SUV, the B03X.
The pricing would undercut its key rival in Australia, the BYD Atto 2 that costs from $31,990 inclusive, as well as budget electric hatchbacks such as the MG4 Urban.
Leapmotor International – the JV majority owned by car giant Stellantis – said at the B03X’s international launch in Spain that it was hopeful the B03Z will start under $30,000 in Australia, though said indicative pricing for now was “from $30,000 drive-away”.
The B03X is available in Europe with two battery options, though Australia is set to take just the bigger, 53kWh battery that comes with a WLTP-rated driving range of 382km – 90km more than the small-battery model.
There will be two trim grades, with an entry-level Style and higher-spec Design that will cost about $33,000 drive-away.
The front-wheel-drive B03X’s electric motor has 145kW and 200Nm and the claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.6 seconds (identical to the 130kW/200Nm small-battery B03X, if you were curious).
Faster DC charging from 30-80 percent battery charge is quoted at 16 minutes for all B03X models, with AC charging nine hours for single-phase or three hours 10 minutes for three-phase 11kW wallbox charging.
The Leapmotor B03X is due to reach Australian showrooms in the final months of 2026.
It will join the B10 and C10 midsize SUVs, which are offered as either fully electric or as electric vehicles with petrol range-extenders, as well as the B05 electric hatch launching in October.
