Leapmotor B10 hybrid 2026: China’s latest plug-in launches for under 40K to rival BYD Sealion 5 and Chery Tiggo 7

China’s new plug-in small SUV arrives to keep plugless rivals on their toes, offering rear-wheel drive, 160kW, and a claimed electric range of up to 84km

Stellantis’ star joint-venture, Leapmotor, has launched a new plug-in hybrid variant of its B10 small to midsize SUV, known as the B10 hybrid EV.

The B10 plug-in hybrid spans two grades, Style and Design, with pricing marked at $37,888 and $40,888 respectively, before on-road costs. Pricing is therefore identical to the B10 EV, itself offering two grades of the same name.

The Leapmotor B10 PHEV fills a niche segment of small plug-in hybrid SUV — a body shape more traditionally occupied by plugless cars like the $36,950 Hyundai Kona Hybrid and $37,440 Toyota Corolla Cross.

The sparsity in B10 Hybrid’s segment results in its closest rivals measuring a touch larger, contending China-derived midsize PHEVs like the $33,990 BYD Sealion 5 and $37,990 DA Chery Tiggo 7 CSH, though it’s noted that Leapmotor’s larger and costlier $43,888 C10 REEV is intended to fill this segment.

Both grades of B10 PHEV share an identical petrol-hybrid drivetrain which produces a combined output of 160kW and 240Nm. An electric motor drives the rear wheels, while a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine acts as a generator to charge an 18.8kWh LFP battery.

Leapmotor claims its PHEV system is good for a combined driving distance of up to 900km (WLTP). EV-only driving distance is quoted at 84km, and combined fuel economy 0.9L/100km. Both grades sport a 50-litre fuel tank and can run on standard-octane petrol.

Like the B10 EV, the B10 PHEV measures 4515mm long, 1885mm wide, and 1665mm tall, driving on a 2735mm wheelbase. It is most similar in size to the Toyota Corolla Cross, with measurements within 60mm in all directions.

Some of the highlight features for the base model B10 Hybrid EV Style include:

  •  18-inch alloy wheels
  •  Automatic LED headlights
