2017 Audi Q5 pricing and specifications

After a worldwide debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the second-generation 2017 Audi Q5 has landed in Australia promising technological, dynamic and value improvements.

The first-generation was very successful in Australia, with more than 25,000 units sold here since the model debuted in 2008. Worldwide, over 1.6 million of the model have been sold. The Q5’s combination of style, efficiency, practicality and performance won it many fans, and made the BMW X3 of the time seem crude and undesirable.

“The first-generation Q5 went on to establish itself as the most successful Audi SUV in Australia,” said Scott Maynard, General Manager Sales at Audi Australia.

“Owners found the size of the Audi Q5 was the perfect compromise between the versatility modern families need, while still being easy to manoeuvre in an urban environment and offering fuel efficient city and long-distance driving. In short, it ticked all the boxes.

“The all-new second-generation Audi Q5 brings improvements in every area – interior space, fuel efficiency, progressive technology and now with a more modern, sophisticated design. Based on this, and on the back of the success of the first generation, it’s no surprise that there have been a long list of loyal Q5 customers talking to our dealers, who can’t wait to drive the all-new model,” said Mr Maynard.

The second-generation Q5 now rides on the Volkswagen Group’s new MLB platform – shared with the mid-sized A4 – and has lost 80kg of weight compared to its predecessor. Despite the weight loss, the Q5 is slightly longer this time around, and packs an extra ten litres of boot space, now at 610-litres (1,550-litres with the seats folded flat).

Available in two different specification levels, design (from $65,900) and sport (from $70,700), the 2017 Audi Q5 is available with two different drivetrains. Both specification levels are available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel, producing 140kW of power and 400Nm of torque and a combined fuel economy rating of 5.3L/100km.

The sport is also available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol, producing 185kW of power and 370Nm of torque. The 2.0TFSI uses 7.3L/100km on a combined cycle. Both engines are mated to a seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission.

The 210kW 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel of the old Q5 will be made available later in 2017, mated to an eight-speed automatic, as will be the SQ5 and possibly even an RS Q5.

The 2017 Audi Q5 is now also far better equipped as standard. The entry-level Q5 design receives 18-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED tailights, leather seats, 40:20:40-split rear seats, keyless entry and start, tri-zone climate control, a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters and Audi’s MMI Navigation infotainment system with a seven-inch high-resolution screen, 3D maps, live traffic information and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration.

The Q5 sport builds on this extensive equipment list with 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights with scrolling rear indicators, sports front seats, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital dials, Audi premium sound with ten speakers and a 180w output, and MMI Navigation plus with a larger 8.3-inch screen, MMI touch, a DVD player and five included map updates.

The 2017 Audi Q5 is also far better equipped with active safety equipment. All Q5 models will receive autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian detection up to 85km/h, rear cross traffic alert with braking, blind spot monitoring (Audi Side Assist), pre-sense rear alert (collision alert warning), front and rear parking sensors, a multi-angle reverse camera and pre-sense basic.

Step up to the Q5 sport, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go, turn assist (where the car will intervene the steering if it detects that there isn’t enough time to complete a turning manoeuvre in traffic), automatic high beam activation, pre-sense collision warning (up to 250km/h) and even predictive efficient assist, which gives the driver tips to drive more efficiently on the go.

Those who feel the need to option up their Q5, Comfort, S-Line and Technik packages are available as cost-options, though Audi Australia has not released details for these options as yet.

The 2017 Audi Q5 is available to order from dealerships now, and the first orders arrive in June of this year.
