Enhanced spec for Australian MINI Clubman

Available from September, MINI Australia has updated its Clubman five-door wagon range with additional standard equipment across the range for the 2018 model year. The updated Clubman follows recent equipment additions to other MINI models, including the Seven limited edition and the all-new Countryman SUV, which is significantly better equipped than before.

Now equipped with navigation and larger alloy wheels across the range, the Clubman has seen price rises of up to $1,100 depending on the model. MINI Australia has also altered the available option packages in a bid to offer better value to its Australian customers.

“The Clubman has delivered on its promise,” said MINI Australia General Manager Tony Sesto.

“Its unique design offers mass appeal, from those seeking individuality to those taking the family on a road trip. Now with the latest connectivity and value-added specification, the concept is more appealing than ever.”

Starting with the entry-level Cooper Clubman (from $36,900 – up $1,100) receives MINI’s Navigation System Business as standard, as well as the Driver Assist System, which adds autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, city collision mitigation, automatic high beam headlights and speed sign recognition.

Inside, the Clubman Cooper receives a cloth and leather trim combination, and is noticeable from the outside by new 17-inch alloy wheels. The Cooper also receives MINI Connected as standard, which uses data from your mobile phone to detail fuel prices, weather, traffic and even accesses your calendar to advise of when the best time to leave for a destination is.

The Cooper continues to use the BMW Group’s 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which produces 100kW of power and 220Nm of torque, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. MINI claims a 0-100km/h time of 9.1 seconds, combined fuel economy of 5.4L/100km and CO2 emissions of 125g/km. Standard equipment highlights for the Cooper Clubman include climate control air-conditioning, a digital radio, automatic headlights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The middle of the range is the Cooper S Clubman (from $44,900 – up $1,000), which in addition to the new equipment for the Cooper, also adds LED headlights and new 18-inch alloy wheels, as well as radar cruise control and MINI’s Park Assist, which includes automatic parallel parking and front and rear parking sensors. This is in addition to the Cooper S’ healthy equipment list, which includes a JCW sports leather steering wheel, keyless entry and start, selectable driving modes and the MINI Excitement Package, which includes configurable interior LED mood lighting and MINI-branded puddle lamps mounted in the exterior mirrors.

The Cooper S continues to use the BMW Group’s 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine, in this tune producing 141kW of power and 320Nm of torque through an eight-speed automatic. MINI claims a 0-100km/h time of 7.1 seconds, combined fuel economy of 5.9L/100km and CO2 emissions of 138g/km.

Sitting atop the local Clubman range is the John Cooper Works All4, which is the performance-orientated Clubman. It comes with a higher tune of the same 2.0-litre turbo engine in the Cooper S, and produces 170kW of power and 350Nm of torque. Unlike its Clubman siblings and the hatchback and convertible JCW models, the Clubman (and its Countryman sibling) are equipped with MINI’s All4 all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic, which cuts its 0-100km/h time to 6.3 seconds, though raises its fuel economy to 7.2L/100km and CO2 emissions to 164g/km. A six-speed manual is available at no extra cost.

The John Cooper Works Clubman, in addition to the added equipment on lower models, also adds wireless phone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay, as well as MINI Find Mate – a GPS tracker for items that are accessible via a smartphone app. John Cooper Works Clubman pricing remains unchanged, at $54,900. JCW Clubman standard equipment is much lengthier, with 19-inch alloy wheels, the Multimedia Pro package with Professional Navigation, a 12-speaker harman/kardon sound system and a heads-up display, as well as other JCW touches such as unique bodywork and an anthracite headliner.

A $2,000 Chili Package for the Cooper includes different 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, keyless entry and start, selectable driving modes and the MINI Excitement package.

The $2,400 Multimedia Pro Package for Cooper and Cooper S variants (already standard on the JCW) includes the larger 8.8-inch Professional Navigation screen with a 20GB hard drive, voice recognition, a 12-speaker Harman/kardon sound system, a heads-up display, MINI Connected including Apple CarPlay and wireless phone charging.

A Convenience Package ($3,200 for the Cooper, $2,200 for the Cooper S and JCW) adds electric front seats with memory functionality and electric lumbar support, a 40/20/40-split rear seat, an alarm, auto-dimming mirrors including an electric-folding function, keyless entry and start and Park Assist with front and rear parking sensors.

A $2,400 Climate Package adds a panoramic sunroof, sun protection glazing and heated front seats. The Control Package ($1,600 for the Cooper but only if the Chili Package is selected and $650 for Cooper S and JCW variants) adds tyre pressure monitoring, adaptive LED headlights and on the Cooper, radar cruise control.

Finally, the Cooper S is available with a $4,000 John Cooper Works Chili Package, which adds a JCW aerokit and rear spoiler, 19-inch alloy wheels, JCW badging, Carbon Black leather upholstery, and some JCW interior trimmings including the steering wheel, gearshift lever, door sill finishers and an anthracite roof lining.

Many of those options are available alone, and many other trim and colour enhancements are available to indulge in the customisation that the British brand is famous for.
