Toyota’s three-litre D4D turbodiesel will be ditched from the LandCruiser Prado within months, replaced by a new 2.8-litre four-cylinder unit sourced from the new HiLux ute.
If the new 2.8-litre diesel retains the specifications used in the HiLux, it will make 132kW across the board. When it comes to torque, the standard six-speed manual offers 420Nm of shove, while the optional six-speed automatic receives an updated 450Nm.
All numbers are up from the old three-litre that dates to the year 2000. That motor currently produces 127kW and 410Nm in the Prado, across both transmissions – a five-speed manual and a five-speed automatic.
The new diesel will see fuel consumption fall. The current engine returns 8.5L/100km in automatic form, and 8.8L/100km in the manual.
Production of the updated Prado diesel will start from June builds.
