Toyota’s Hilux pick-up has been enhanced for 2023 with changes to specifications and price going forward
Toyota’s most popular model and the best-selling vehicle in Australia, the Hilux, has been enhanced for 2023.
Upgrades have been put in place for the entry SR variant that now has black 17-inch alloy wheels, replacing the existing steel units. Also changed for the SR are coloured door handles which replace the black door handles to “give the SR a more premium look”.
The SR5 variant has also received some enhancements including an updated safety suite, which includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a panoramic-view monitor system to aid close parking situations.
Puddle lamps have also been added to the SR5, along with a new ID Box anti-theft immobiliser to replace the existing steering column lock.
The SR5+ is the new king of the castle for the Hilux range, with the Rogue and Rugged X models disappearing from national pricing lists. But a new, wider Rogue will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2022.
It is likely that a new flagship ‘apex’ Hilux is just around the corner to try and take on the new Ford Ranger Raptor, which is due to hit the Australian market in September.
Expect this much more potent Hilux of the future to likely be powered by a larger displacement 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine.
The Hilux for 2023 is available with three engines depending on what variant you decide to choose. These powertrains are unchanged for the Hilux update.
The Toyota Hilux workmate models are available with either a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol with 122kW/245Nm or a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder with 110kW/400Nm.
All SR and SR5 grades are available with a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that produces 150kW of power and up to 500Nm of torque in automatic guise.
The entry-level Workmate comes standard with features including halogen daytime running lights, fabric seats, a 4.2-inch colour instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, manual air conditioning, an 8.0-inch central touchscreen, two speakers and remote keyless entry.
Stepping up into the SR grade, buyers will receive the side steps, premium fabric seats, an air-conditioned cooler box, a high-grade drivers bucket seat and either a four or six speaker sound system.
The top grade SR5 variant adds on to the specification of the SR with LED headlights and fog lights, a stainless steel sports bar, premium steering wheel and gear shifter, chrome interior door handles, dual-zone climate control, smart entry, two power accessory sockets and a six speaker sound system.
Standard safety equipment across the range includes seven airbags, lane departure warning, AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, road sign assist, active cruise control, hill-start assist and on higher SR5 grades, a reversing camera and downhill assist control.
Pricing for 4×4 double cab pick-up SR, SR5 and SR5+ variants have risen by $1250 over the outgoing versions. All other variants carry over the existing pricing.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
