BMW M2 CS priced at $140k, arriving in Australia in August

Australian pricing and specification has been confirmed for the 2020 BMW M2 CS – the hardcore swansong for the current geneation of BMW M’s smallest two-door.

Priced at $139,900, the M2 CS will arrive in Australia in high standard specification, including a full Merino leather package and vast swathes of carbon fibre utilised inside and for a significant number of body and mechanical components.

The M2 CS retains the existing M2 Competition’s S55 three-litre inline six-cylinder engine, but power is bumped up to an all-time high for the M2 of 331kW – on par with the outgoing M3 and M4 from the class above.

A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard, with an auto optional

A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard fit for Australia, though a seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission will be a no cost option. Both will share a top speed of 280km/h.

Carbon fibre has been widely used to lighten the M2 CS, with the strong but featherweight material utilised across the bonnet, front splitter, mirrors, roof, rear boot spoiler, and rear diffuser.

The M2 CS will be differentiated by the fitment of gold wheels outside – though blacked-out alloys will be available for shyer buyers. Inside, the M2’s supple upholstery matches that fitted to very high end M cars, including the forthcoming $350k M8 Competition.

Road tyres will be fitted by default, but for an extra tariff Australian buyers can opt to have their M2 CS delivered on Michelin Pilot Cup 2 rubber for track use.

A modified sports exhaust will give the M2 CS a signature growl while adaptive suspension is also included, with the tune adapted from the outgoing M3 and M4.
