Upgraded Geely Starray Inspire gains larger EV battery to improve EV-only and combined driving distances for a slight price increase
Geely Australia has confirmed grade tweaks and pricing changes for its range-topping MY27 Starray EM-i Inspire plug-in hybrid SUV, which will be headlined by a larger EV battery, greater driving distances, and reduced fuel consumption upon its end of May arrival.
Currently spanning just two model grades, the Starray starts from $37,490 before on-road costs for the base model Complete, which currently serves as Australia’s second-cheapest plug-in hybrid SUV behind the $33,990 BYD Sealion 5.
Meanwhile, the range-topping Starray EM-i Inspire now starts from $41,490 (up $1500), and gains a significantly larger 29.8kWh high voltage battery – up 11.4kWh over the current Starray Complete and MY26-plated Starray Inspire models.
Resultantly, the Starray Inspire now boasts a combined driving range of 996km (WLTP), up 50km over its predecessor. EV driving range increases to 136km (up 53km), and combined fuel consumption drops from 2.4L/100 km to 1.4L/100 km (claimed).
Geely’s latest EV battery changes see the Starray Inspire appear strong on paper for both price and driving range when compared to Australia’s segment-leading plug-in hybrid SUVs, weighing in over $15,000 cheaper than the $58,990 Mitsubishi Outlander ES PHEV, which claims an EV driving range of 86km (WLTP), and around $5000 cheaper than the $46,990 BYD Sealion 6 Extended Range, which claims 128km NEDC of EV range.
Geely has additionally confirmed its new Inspire variant will raise peak DC charging from 30kW to 60kW to maintain a 30 to 80% charge time of around 16 minutes.
Range wide model range tweaks for the MY26 Geely Starray include the addition of a five-metre long mode 2 charging cable, towing preparation and trailer stability assist functionality, and massaging front seats for Inspire grade vehicles.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
