LEAK: Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser Prado peeped ahead of official debut

The extensive leak of America’s compact Land Cruiser, expected to be next Prado, appeared online overnight

Images of the US-market verison of the next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado product have leaked overnight, apparently via the Kurdistan Automotive Blog Instagram page.

Chasing Cars understands that the leaked images are genuine. A full reveal of the US-market Land Cruiser, which is the basis of the next Land Cruiser Prado, will occur later today.

The US market Land Cruiser is expected to become the Prado in Australia

The leaked images reveal a dramatic aesthetic switch for the Prado-sized Land Cruiser, which adopts squared-off styling cues and retro front-end detailing. It is understood to share its dimensions and hard points with the incoming Lexus GX that is confirmed for Australia.

It is expected that a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain will be offered with the Prado, especially in the United States – but also locally – while diesel power will almost certainly persist in Australia.

What looks like a 12.3-inch touchscreen can be seen in the centre

Kurdistan Automotive Blog claims that the vehicle uses a 243kW/630Nm version of Toyota’s 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol-electric parallel hybrid engine, dubbed i-Force Max in the US.

Leaked photographs of the interior show a cabin that references a number of retro elements while folding in some concepts from the Land Cruiser 300 Series. The infotainment appears to be Toyota’s latest suite, utilising a large 12.3-inch touchscreen in the centre of a squared-off dash.

The Australian Prado is expected to retail diesel power

Two trim grades appear to be shown in the leaked images.

More to come later today.
