Mid-five-second performance and 3.5-tonne towing offered for Benz’s first-ever plug-in large family hauler, priced from $156,900
Mercedes-Benz Australia has released pricing and specification for its first-ever PHEV versions of its large GLE SUV, on sale today from $156,900 list for the ‘SUV’ wagon and from $160,900 list for the Coupe.
The headline act for the GLE 450e 4Matic is its 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline six-cylinder-based plug-in powertrain, bringing 320kW and 680Nm of combined outputs yielding a 0-100km/h claim of 5.6 seconds paired with the capability of towing up to 3.5 tonnes.
With its 25.7kWh usable battery and 135kW motor, the 450e 4Matic offers 87km (WLTP) of pure electric driving range in Coupe form and slightly shorter 87km for the wagon, available at highway speeds of up to 140km/h.
Its AC charging peak is 11kW though an on-board 60kW DC charging package can be optioned for $1100.
Feature highlights include the revised styling rolled out across the GLE lineup earlier this year, with AMG Line exterior and Night Package aesthetics as standard. The SUV fits 20-inch AMG five-spoke wheels while the walk up to the Coupe brings 21-inchers.
Suspension is conventional steel springs though buyers can upgrade to Airmatic air suspension for a $3800 upcharge.
Inside, the GLE features the latest MBUX Superscreen digital window dressing, which blends three 12.3-inch screens in a single glass-faced housing.
The GLE adopts the MB.OS architecture that brings AI-based functionality and connectivity to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud connected architecture. Burmeister 3D sound is standard.
The SUV fits Artico faux-leather trimmed regular seating while the Coupe brings an AMG Line Sport Seat Package with the mix of Artico and Microcut (microfibre) finishing.
Options include an Interior Comfort Package ($5600, multicontour seats, Thermotronic climate control, Magic Vision control, etc); Exterior Comfort Package ($2300, power closing doors, 360deg ‘Guard’ protection, etc); Digital Light ($2800); and a Towbar package ($3000) only offered in conjunction with Airmatic air suspension upgrade.
The first-ever PHEV GLE is on sale in Australian dealerships from today.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
