MG ZS EV Long Range: Australian price revealed as release date arrives

Price up by 16 percent compared to the standard version, but the ZS EV Long Range promises 40 percent of additional driving range

The long-range variant of the popular MG ZS EV electric small SUV will be released in Australia this month at a price of $55,990 before on-road costs.

Available only in top-spec Essence trim, the incoming ZS EV Long Range is $8000 more expensive than the standard range version of the vehicle that was launched locally in facelifted form in 2022.

The additional spend will buy Australian drivers nearly 40 percent additional driving range when compared to the standard model, with the ZS EV Long Range promising 440km of range on Europe’s reasonably accurate WLTP testing protocol.

Utilising its 68.3kWh-usable battery, the ZS EV should deliver consumption of about 15.5kWh/100km. The ZS EV was not initially slated to come to Australia, but MG says its decision to import the vehicle was based on “unprecedented demand” for its current EV offering, plus customer feedback.

Later, in the second half of 2023, the ZS EV range will be complemented by the Australian release of the MG4 electric hatchback, which will offer up to 450km of driving range.

MG Australia has not yet announced state-by-state driveaway deals for the ZS EV Long Range. If it does not do so, the price will be around $60,000 driveaway before electric vehicle purchase incentives are taken into account.

The Australian price of the MG ZS EV Long Range will see the car sit above the positioning of the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range in the local market. That rival electric small SUV is priced at $51,011 before on-road costs, and promises 420km of driving range (WLTP).

However, the ZS EV’s warranty is superior, with MG continuing to market the vehicle with a seven year, unlimited kilometre warranty for both the vehicle and the battery.
