Jaguar F-Pace 2016: Jag SUV on show at Tour de France

Racing into the picture under ‘light camouflage’, viewers of the Tour de France cycling race will be granted the closest look yet at the forthcoming Jaguar F-Pace. The first Jaguar SUV will launch in Australia next year, as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s expansion into a variety of new segments.

The F-Pace is serving with the professional British squad Team Sky at the Tour, and while it’s officially still a prototype, according to Jaguar, the proximity to the SUV’s official unveiling at the September 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show suggests we are seeing the real deal several months early.

Team Sky rider Chris Froome has driven the squad’s F-Pace, suggesting ‘it has all of the same high-performance road dynamics [as the rest of the brand’s range]…only this time in a performance crossover.’

Clearly visible even in the team’s camouflage are the F-Pace’s athletic lines, clearly borrowing several handsome elements from the all-new Jaguar XF sedan (see the details here), as well as from the Jaguar F-Type sports coupe and convertible.

Though the F-Pace will share elements of the architecture behind Land Rover’s four-wheel-drives, responsibility for its design has remained with Jaguar—it’s pleasing to see that the big Cat is clearly visibly differentiated from the blockier Range Rover styling we are used to.
