Chery Stockman 2026: 800Nm diesel-hybrid ute confirms 3.5T towing, 100km electric range claim ahead of Q4 launch

Putting a diesel-spin on the emerging hybrid ute formula, Chery’s pickup boasts Shark 6-eating torque

Chery Australia has released initial specifications for its Stockman ute ahead of its arrival in the fourth quarter of 2026 in diesel-hybrid guise.

Total system outputs of 350kW and 800Nm matches the BYD Shark 6 Performance for power while offering 100Nm more torque than the popular plug-in.

Setting the Stockman apart from the Shark 6 and others like the GWM Cannon Alpha, is the fact it uses a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine instead of a petrol – though that will be offered at a later date, says Chery Australia.

3.5T towing and ground clearance confirmed

Chery has confirmed the industry-standard 3.5-tonne towing capacity will feature on the inbound version. The brand referenced the fact that payload would be uncompromised by its electrified drivetrains but did not quote an official figure.

Supporting the towing capacity is a rear leaf-spring and double-wishbone front suspension setup.

Boosting claims of off-road ability is the standard fitment of all-terrain tyres and 247mm of ground clearance.

100km electric range claim confirmed

When not running on diesel fuel, Chery claims the Stockman will travel 100km on a single charge – though this number is according to the lenient NEDC standard.

Measuring 5450mm long, 2010mm wide and 1890mm tall with a 3250mm wheelbase, the Stockman is closer in size to a GWM Cannon Alpha than a typical midsize ute like the Ford Ranger.

The additional size affords it a large square tub of 1560mm by 1560mm with 500mm of depth, though it’s not clear how wide the clearance is between the arches.

Pricing, grades and more still remain unconfirmed but will likely be revealed closer to the launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
