Kia PV7 2027: Ford E-Transit and Renault Master rival teased as Kia’s modular e-van family grows

Another big electric van is on its way, with the 2027 Kia PV7 being teased ahead of its unveiling in September.

The second model in Kia’s ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’ (PBV) series, the PV7 slots above the PV5 van we already have in Australia.

Where the PV5 rivals the Volkswagen Buzz, Toyota Hiace and Renault Trafic, the larger PV7 will rival the Volkswagen Crafter and Renault Master.

It’s the latter Kia’s targeting, as Renault already sells an electric Master in Australia, from $77,990 before on-roads. The PV5 is cheaper than the Renault Kangoo from a size below it ($55,990 vs $61,990), so the PV7 is likely to be sharply priced as well. 

Kia’s only shown hints of the front and back, but they reveal the PV7 mimics the robotic, rounded styling used on the PV5. 

A closer look reveals a cargo version (white) with blanked side windows, and a passenger version (blue) with windows and a car-like, upward-opening tailgate.

The Platform Beyond Vehicles are modular, with parts and panels interchangeable to let Kia meet all sorts of needs. The motor and battery, as well as the front seats, are common, and then it’s choose-your-own-adventure in the back.

The shared platform (E-GMP.S – Hyundai and Kia’s EV platform adapted for commercial vehicles) means the PV5’s powertrain is likely to carry over. 

In Australia, the PV5 has a 120kW/250Nm motor driving the front wheels. The larger PV7 may need a little more punch, though, and could spawn an AWD variant. 

Though other variants — namely a passenger version — are coming, the only PV5 currently sold in Australia is the Long Range, packing a 71kWh battery and a rated 416km driving range (WLTP).

Kia will unveil the PV7 in full at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany on 14^th September.
