Australian pricing and specifications for the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door have been announced ahead of the car’s local arrival in mid-2019. Priced from $249,900 plus on-road costs, the AMG GT 4-Door will be offered in two models – the twin-turbo six GT 53 and ballistic twin-turbo V8 GT 63 S.

Mercedes-Benz Australia used the recent Bathurst 12-Hour race to unveil the car’s local specifications and even specially imported an Australian-spec example months ahead of launch to be shown to local fans. The 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is due to go on sale locally half way through 2019.

“The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé blends the impressive racetrack dynamism of our two-door sports car with maximum suitability for everyday use. It has a unique way of embodying our brand core, “Driving Performance” and with its systematic configuration it will attract new customers for Mercedes-AMG,” commented Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Even though the AMG GT 4-Door uses the AMG GT name, it’s actually based on the AMG E63 S wagon that’s not sold locally, which offers a longer wheelbase better suited to the AMG GT. Offered in two specifications in Australia, the AMG GT is priced above the AMG E63 S sedan, even in entry level GT 53 guise. The GT 53 is fitted with a 3.0-litre inline-six cylinder petrol engine that features one conventional turbocharger and an electric boost system to produce 320kW of power and 520Nm of torque – the same drivetrain is used in the CLS and E-Class. It’s matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission and is capable of hitting 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

If you want even more performance, the GT 63 S sits above the GT 53 and uses a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 with 470kW of power and a massive 900Nm of torque. It is also matched to a nine-speed automatic, and is even quicker to 100km/h at just 3.2 seconds.

Standard equipment is expectedly generous for both models, with nine airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert, a 360º camera, heated and cooled front seats, Nappa leather upholstery, LED lighting, 20-inch alloy wheels, a 14-speaker Burmester sound system and wireless phone charging standard on the GT 53.

The GT 63 S then adds larger 21-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel steering, an active engine mount, power-closing doors and an AMG sports steering wheel. A number of option packages exist for both the GT 53 and GT 63 S, including an Edition 1 package for the GT 63 S. Both the GT 53 and GT 63 S are five-seaters, but offer a four-seat option.
