Skoda Kamiq previewed by official sketches

Just days after confirming its name, the Skoda Kamiq has been previewed in official sketches released by the Czech company. Due to be officially revealed at March’s 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Kamiq will be the brand’s smallest SUV.

Due to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0 platform that also underpins the Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen T-Cross – among many others – the Kamiq will offer a range of three- and four-cylinder petrol engines when it launches locally in 2020.

Oliver Stefani, Skoda Chief Designer said: “In our new Kamiq city SUV we’ve implemented a completely new headlamp configuration. The two-part headlamps with daytime running lights above are a first for ŠKODA. They give the Kamiq a unique appearance and represent another interpretation of our successful SUV design language.”

Previewed by two images released by Skoda, the Kamiq appears to be quite a sharp looking small SUV. Using the first split-headlamp styling arrangement from the company that many other small SUVs use, the Kamiq’s upper headlights fall neatly into the top of the grille. The lower headlights house the low and high beam, and all-LED lighting should be standard equipment if the new Scala hatchback is to set the example for future Skoda products.

Also featuring on the Kamiq will be sequential LED indicators at the front – the Scala only features them at the rear – as well as a deep set grille for a more aggressive and masculine look. The rear of the Kamiq will look similar to the Vision X from Geneva last year, with shapely tailights that feature many creases for an edgy look. The side character line travels the length of the car, and gives the side of the Kamiq an sculpted look.

The 2020 Skoda Kamiq is due to be revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show before going on sale in Australia sometime in 2020. While local pricing and specifications are yet to be released, we expect it to launch from around $25,000 to successfully fit underneath Skoda’s larger Karoq medium SUV.
