Nissan’s Y62 Patrol to depart Australia by August, while exact timing for next-generation ‘Y63’ remains unconfirmed

Flagship offroader from Nissan bids farewell after a monumental 13 year run, but don’t worry, there’s a new one on the way

After a triumphant 13-year run, Nissan’s fabled, V8-powered Y62 Patrol will exit Australia, following the conclusion of its Japan-based assembly.

The $96,540 before on-road costs large four-wheel drive off-roader has an official model conclusion locked in for August.

Those on the fence for purchasing Nissan’s rival to the $99,340 Toyota LandCruiser 300 and $98,400 Land Rover Defender have less than two months to make a decision, though the bespoke, Australian-tuned Premcar Warrior is penned to last a touch longer.

The current generation Y62 Nissan Patrol is one of the last naturally aspirated V8 cars available to purchase new in Australia. It produces a combined output of 298kW and 560Nm, sent through a seven-speed conventional automatic and full-time four wheel drive system.

Fortunately for Patrol fans, a next-generation Y63 Patrol has already been locked in for Australia, featuring a 317kW/700Nm twin turbocharged V6. Chasing Cars has already had the chance to drive Nissan’s new Patrol in left-hand drive markets – read our review here

Local orders for the next-generation Patrol Y63 are set to open by the end of the year, though pricing remains unconfirmed. Local specifications and exact launch timing also remain in contention, despite the model launching to select left-hand markets nearly two years ago.

It’s expected that a price hike will coincide with Nissan’s next-generation flagship. In Dubai, the Y63 Patrol’s price rose by 13-percent over its predecessor. If this decision is mirrored in Australia, its entry price would start from around $110,000 before on- road costs.
