MG’s only plug-in hybrid has been hit with a $1000 price increase, with the PHEV SUV now starting at $49,690
As of the 1st of November, both grades in the HS Plus EV range are $1000 more expensive, bringing the Australian national driveaway prices of the Excite to $49,460, and the Essence to $52,690.
Despite its Plus EV name, this version of the HS is a plug-in hybrid that teams a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol with an 90kW electric motor to make 119kW of power and 250Nm. Chasing Cars has reviewed the 2022 HS Plus EV and found that it delivers a real-world electric driving range of 63km.
When it first entered the Australian market, the HS Plus EV Essence was priced at $46,990 driveaway – or $5700 less than now.
Other midsize SUVs in the Australian market have also seen price rises due to inflationary pressure in the same time window.
The entry-level HS Plus EV Excite has only risen $2700 over its original price, after being hit with three price increases over the same period.
Though the plug-in hybrid MG has been hit with a flurry of price hikes in recent times, the petrol-only HS SUV remains the same for now.
Since these price increases started, no extra equipment has been added to the HS Plus EV, with the only change being the exclusion of non-metallic paint.
Despite these price increases, the MG HS Plus EV still remains the cheapest plug-in hybrid on offer in Australia, with its closest rival in the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV starting at $50,490 driveaway.
