New seven-seater improves on the outgoing Tiguan Allspace with larger dimensions and more variety
Volkswagen Australia has confirmed the Tayron large SUV is coming to Australia in Q4 2025. The Tayron is a family-focused SUV which usurps the Tiguan Allspace, slotting between the Tiguan and Touareg within the Volkswagen family.
Measuring 4792mm long, 1853mm wide, 1666mm tall, and running on a 2989mm wheelbase, the Tayron will contend Australia’s three-row heavyweights, including the Toyota Kluger (from $62,410), and Hyundai Santa Fe (from $57,000, both before on-road costs).
We anticipate an introductory list price of around $54,000 for Volkswagen’s Tayron, placing it above the starting price of the soon-to-depart Tiguan Allspace ($47,990) and recently released ‘110TSI Life’ Tiguan ($44,990).
Volkswagen’s Tayron will launch with a four variant line-up beginning with a modest 110kW/250Nm front-drive 110TSI Life trim sold exclusively with seven seats and Volkswagen’s seven-speed ‘wet’ DSG transmission.
Standard equipment for the 110TSI Life includes 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, a power tailgate, 360-view camera, and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, AEB, blind-spot monitoring and nine airbags also come standard, as does a 1800kg braked towing capacity.
Stepping up to the 150TSI Life introduces a five-seat configuration alongside a more powerful 150kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, all-wheel drive, and an increased braked towing capacity of 2500kg. Five-seat variants of Tayron have more boot space than seven-seat counterparts, increasing from 850 litres (third row folded down) to 885 litres.
Offered as a premium family spec, the 150TSI Elegance reverts to a seven-seat layout and rolls on 19-inch alloys. It gains leather upholstery, power-adjust front seats with ventilation, heating and massaging, heated second-row seating, unique LED brightwork, and rear privacy glass.
Lastly, the 195TSI R-Line serves as the Tayron flagship. It gains a 195kW/400Nm engine which derives from the Golf GTI, and additionally features 20-inch alloy wheels, unique R-Line interior and exterior styling, a Harman Kardon sound system, matrix LED headlights, head-up display and a larger 15.0-inch infotainment screen.
Aussies will once again miss-out on a hybrid option from Volkswagen, despite two outgoing plug-in Tayrons already on sale in the UK. There is currently no public plan for either plug-in variant of Tayron to feature in local showrooms.
