Polestar promises improved ride quality for its MY27 medium coupe-SUV, combined with simplified equipment packages and reduced pricing for variants at the top end
The Swedish-designed, Chinese-made Polestar 4 electric SUV has just been updated for MY27, and the changes are good news for anyone who may have driven the previous Polestar 4 and felt like it deserved a more comfortable ride.
There’s also some good news for MY27 Polestar 4 Dual-Motor and Performance buyers, with price reductions of between $2000 and $7000 compared to the outgoing MY26.
For the new model year, Polestar has restructured its Polestar 4 offerings, now adopting a ‘Coupe’ suffix – in anticipation of the wagon-bodied Polestar 4 Estate teased earlier this year – alongside tweaks to the model’s options packages and prices, as well as its suspension.
To lessen the discomfort of its often-abrupt ride quality, Polestar has completely retuned its chassis with high-capacity passive dampers – replacing the internal rebound coil springs with polyurethane rebound stops to improve comfort and control – as well as new springs and revised anti-roll bars. Polestar says it has also improved steering precision.
The Swedes claim these changes deliver “a more refined ride with enhanced driving pleasure,” while improving “both agility and comfort.”
The entry-model Polestar 4 Rear Motor will remain at $78,500 before on-road costs, while the Dual Motor gains a price cut of $2000 to start from $86,350.
Changes have also been made to Polestar 4’s options packages. The Plus Package has been reduced by up to $2989 (down $1500 for Rear Motor), the Pro Pack has been removed, and a new Comfort Pack has been introduced for $1200.
The Comfort package adds a heated steering wheel, power-adjust steering column, and 12-way electric front seats – features lifted from Polestar’s more comprehensive Plus Package.
For an additional $5300, the Plus pack adds Pixel LED headlights, Harman Kardon sound system, head-up display, power-reclining rear seats, a control screen for rear passengers, and hands-free bootlid operation over the Comfort pack.
Faster 22kW AC charging has been removed from the Plus package for MY27 – instead, it’s now offered as a single option for $900. Body-coloured lower cladding, electrochromatic glass roof, rear privacy glass and an electric-retract towball are also offered as single options.
Dual-Motor with Plus Package buyers can again scale up into Polestar’s 4 Performance grade, offered for an additional $7200 to represent a performance entry point of $100,050 – $7149 less than last year’s model.
While this represents a saving of about seven percent, the Polestar 4 Dual Motor Performance remains some $10,000 pricier than its key rival, the $89,400 Tesla Model Y Performance, though it closes the gap on its fellow Performance Coupe-SUV rival, the $99,660 Kia EV6 GT.
Polestar 4’s Performance package remains cosmetics and dynamics-focused, with an unchanged combined output of 400kW/686Nm to match the base-model Dual Motor. Chiefly, it adds 22-inch wheels, Brembo performance brakes, a bespoke chassis tune and gold accents.
Polestar 4 Dual Motor Plus owners can alternatively opt for a $5700 Charcoal Nappa interior upgrade ($6100 for Zinc). The upgrade adds Nappa leather trim, ventilated and massaging front seats, front headrest speakers, rear comfort headrests and a brush-textured headliner.
The updated MY27 Polestar 4 is available to order now, with various dealer-imposed discounts applying to MY26 plated models.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
