Electric midsized SUV set to be best-selling vehicle for second consecutive month with remarkable 8000-plus sales
Tesla has shattered its Australian single-month sales record, registering 8670 units in June.
The result beats the previous mark of 6433 sales set only in May, and was again driven by the showroom performance of its Model Y electric SUV.
The Model Y accounted for 93 percent of Tesla’s June total, a 134 percent year-on-year increase.
The Model 3 sedan twin continues to struggle, with sales down 47 percent compared with June 2025.
An 89 percent increase in total sales compared to June last year’s 4589 figure has boosted Tesla’s year-to-date growth to 67 percent – 23,588 vehicles versus 14,146.
Tesla is benefitting from a surge in EV interest that was sparked by the rise in fuel prices and growing uncertainty regarding fuel supplies following the start of the US-Iran war.
Fellow EV-only brand Polestar hasn’t been able to match Tesla’s remarkable results despite offering more models, with its June figure down 25 percent year on year and total sales up less than three percent for a total of 1202 units year to date.
Polestar’s most popular vehicle continues to be the 4 coupe SUV. It shifted 201 units in June alone (up 16-percent from 174 units), with 902 Polestar 4’s finding new homes so-far across 2026 – 226 units more than this time last year with a growth of 33-percent.
Tesla and Polestar sales results continue to be provided exclusively by the Electric Vehicle Council. Other car-manufacture sales results are reported via auto-industry body FCAI.
Chasing Cars will report on those results when published later today.
