Evolution, not revolution, planned to fight BMW i3 and Tesla Model 3
Swedish EV maker Polestar has teased a concept car that previews the next Polestar 2.
The shadowy front image is of the Formula 2030 concept, which will show off the direction Polestar’s design head, Philipp Römers, is taking the brand.
Polestar’s developed a strong reputation for design in its nine-year history – its first managing director, Thomas Ingenlath, was a designer. Römers and co make a point that the new direction is evolution, not revolution.
The ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlights (shared with Volvo) are present and correct, as are the strong horizontal elements on the front.
Anything further is inherently speculative, but with some careful squinting, Chasing Cars observes more prominent wheelarches, a central spar through the windshield like classic Bugattis, and possibly an aerodynamic S-duct in the bonnet.
The Formula 2030 previews the next-generation Polestar 2 sedan, due next year. Also hewing closely to the Formula 2030 will be a new compact SUV, the Polestar 7, due in 2028.
Polestar originally intended to give every all-new model a new number, but since the 2 is getting a direct successor, the name ‘2’ will stay.
Though Polestar is doing well in Australia, it’s facing headwinds abroad. It posted a loss in the first half of 2026, and is presently being evicted from the American market owing to its ownership by Chinese conglomerate Geely.
