Honda Super One priced from $36,900 driveaway in Australia

The brand which has long championed cheap, enjoyable motoring enters the electric age in Australia with a retro-futuristic hatchback

Honda Australia has exceeded expectations and priced its fully electric Super One hatch at below $40,000, amid rising pressure from cut-priced Chinese rivals.

The Super One is priced from $36,900 driveaway in Australia and available in two grades, with the higher spec known as Two-Tone wrapped in Violet Boost matched with a blackout roof with a price of $37,400 DA.

The Super One will compete against rivals such as the BYD Atto 1 (circa-$27,000 driveaway) and MG4 Urban ($31,990 driveaway), but with retro-futuristic styling complete with four-spoke alloy wheels that hark back to the original Honda City Turbo II of the ’80s, the Super One is pitched as a warm-hatch rather than a regular commuter car.

Fewer than 130 units will be brought to Australia in 2026, which are likely to be snapped up by a handful of the 6500 Aussies who have registered their interest. Honda says more supply is on the way, but won’t arrive until 2027.

The first round of local deliveries will arrive from 1 October this year with preorders opening today.

How much power and driving range does the Super One have?

The Super One is armed with a 70kW/162Nm front electric motor drawing from a small 29.6kWh battery. As a result, driving range is quoted at just 253km.

While not much grunt on paper, the Super One weighs in at just 1093kg.

A charging time of 30 minutes is quoted to top-up the Super One from 15 to 80 percent capacity.

As seen in a similar form on the Prelude sports coupe, the Super One features an ‘S+’ gear mode that simulates the behaviour of a seven-speed dual-clutch to enhance driver engagement. There’s also fake engine noise and a ‘boost’ mode to add extra punch for short periods.

Engineers are said to have tuned the chassis to perform at its best on city streets, including some local tuning on Australian roads.

What does the Super One include?

Measuring less than 3.6 metres long and 1.6m wide, the Super One is also smaller than many of its competitors, owing to the fact that it’s based on the N-One from the Japanese market Kei car class.

Though it seats just four people, the Super One is fitted with the brand’s magic seats that fold up vertically to reveal a flat floor.

Inside, the New Zealand market Super One features a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 9.0-inch multimedia display, heated front seats, a heated leather steering wheel, an eight-speaker Bose sound system and single-zone climate control.

Outside, the Super One wears tiny 15-inch wheels measuring 185/55, with LED headlights and tail-lights and a wide body kit to boost its road presence.
