Subaru WRX STI 2021: EJ25 Final Edition bids farewell to rally hero

The swan song to both the much-loved current-generation WRX STI and the EJ25 engine under the bonnet has arrived packing a slew of unique styling changes.

Subaru has announced the special edition 2021 WRX STI EJ25 Final Edition which bids farewell to the current generation ahead of the release of the new WRX later this year.

Only 75 units of the WRX STI EJ25 Final Edition will be available in Australia and will be priced at $62,440 before on-road costs.

Subaru has released the WRX STI EJ25 Final Edition to farewell the current generation

The model commemorates not only the outgoing WRX STI, which launched in 2014, but also the iconic EJ25 engine under the bonnet; a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine that first made its Australian debut in the 2006 WRX STI.

Based on the $59,440 (before on-roads) WRX STI spec.R, the EJ25 Final Edition receives a long list of features that will help it stand out as a collector’s item.

Carrying over is the unchanged outputs of 221kW of power and 407Nm of torque, which is sent through a six-speed manual to a symmetrical all-wheel-drive system capable of a 0 to 100km/h time of 5.2 seconds.

For starters, each EJ25 Final Edition is badged with a unique number next to the shifter, which compliments a slew of other unique badging on the boot and in the engine bay.

The WRX STI EJ25 Final Edition features a slew of styling changes including a red pinstripe on the front grille

Holding the driver in place is a set of Recaro bucket seats in the front with silver highlights, which is matched with the silver seat belts and interior stitching.

Subaru has also refined the touchpoints by trimming the steering wheel in Ultrasuede, adding a carbon-fibre look panel in the dash and a red STI start button which matches the red pin stripe across the front grille.

Aside from the rarity, the most desirable upgrade to the WRX STI EJ25 Final Edition is the addition of gold 19-inch BBS forged aluminium wheels that sit over the top of silver Brembo brake calipers with an STI logo.

Buyers with a bit of cash left over will also organise a very personal delivery by one of Subaru’s rally drivers Molly Taylor, Cody Crocker, Mark Stacey or Dean Herridge that will be assigned based on the buyer’s location.
