Updated Toyota bZ4X arrives in Aussie dealerships with a cheaper $55,990 price, better tech, more interior features and higher power outputs.
Toyota has slashed the price of its bZ4X electric medium SUV. It now starts more than $10,000 cheaper, from $55,990 before on-road costs.
All-wheel drive pricing has also been cut, dropping $6910 to start from $67,990.
Toyota’s updates follow those made to the Subaru Solterra, the bZ4X’s twin under the skin, which now starts at $63,990 in AWD trim.
The price updates will help Toyota compete with current EV best-sellers including the Tesla Model Y ($58,900) and Kia EV5 ($56,770).
Toyota’s significant price reductions to the bZ4X also help to bridge the gap between it and the vastly popular Toyota RAV4 midsize SUV. The RAV4 will be updated in March next year, and will start from $45,990 for the base plugless hybrid or $58,840 for the base plug-in.
That means Toyota’s battery-electric mid-sizer will undercut its PHEV and flagship hybrid offerings.
Pricing for the extended, more powerful bZ4X Touring, which will arrive in Q2 2026, is still yet to be announced.
The bZ4X additionally receives updates to its EV system. A more powerful 165kW/270Nm (up 15kW) electric motor is paired with a larger 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery (was 64kWh) to deliver an improved driving range of 591km (was 436km) in front-wheel drive guise.
For all-wheel drive models, maximum outputs increase to 252kW/438Nm (up 92kW), while driving range increases to 517km WLTP (was 411km). It too benefits from a larger 74.7kWh battery.
Battery cell density, electric motor efficiency and regenerative braking power also improves.
AC charging now peaks at 22kW, allowing a 10-percent to full charge in around 3.5 hours, while a 150kW DC charge from 10 to 80-percent takes around 30 minutes.
As before, the bZ4X measures 4690mm long, 1860mm wide, and 1650mm tall, driving on a 2850mm wheelbase. The front-wheel drive weighs 1960kg (kerb), while the all-wheel drive weighs 2055kg.
Other tweaks to the updated bZ4X FWD include 18-inch aero wheels, roof rails, paddle shifters to adjust regenerative braking strength, larger 14-inch infotainment screen (was 12.3 inches), two wireless device chargers, heated steering wheel, and increased safety equipment.
Equipment specific to the all-wheel drive bZ4X includes 20-inch aero wheels, eight-way power adjustable heated front seats, and an increased 1500kg braked towing capacity.
The bZ4X was Toyota’s slowest selling SUV, managing just 858 deliveries compared to the market-leading Tesla Model Y (20,241) and Kia EV5 (4541).
Prices listed are before on-road costs.
