BMW M3 Touring 2023: $177k starting price revealed for hot new wagon

BMW Australia has announced pricing for its latest variant for its M3 stable: the highly-anticipated M3 Touring. 

Priced from $177,500 before on-road costs, the M3 Touring will only be available with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. 

But that also makes the new BMW M3 Touring significantly more expensive than the $156,200 Audi RS4 wagon, one of its biggest competitors in a reasonably small wagon market. 

Powering the fast German wagon is the S58 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six that produces 375kW/650Nm and runs through an eight-speed automatic transmission. 

BMW Australia has said the new M3 Touring will launch in Australia early in 2023, as the brand celebrates 50 years of the M car. 

What you need to know about the new M3 Touring

If you’re not sure what a BMW M3 Touring is, it’s the wagon version of the current M3 sedan that is on sale here in Australia. 

The Touring uses the competition-guise turbocharged straight-six engine that produces 375kW/650Nm. BMW says this S58 engine is the basis for the M4 GT3 race car, so it certainly means business. 

BMW claims that its M3 Touring is capable of a 3.6 second 0-100km/h time and can achieve the 0-200km/h sprint in around 12 seconds. 

Also featured on the BMW M3 Touring is an M-specific exhaust system and an active M limited-slip differential as standard. 

The driver is able to put the xDrive all-wheel-drive system into sport which “brings pure rear-wheel drive into play,” if without completely disconnecting the front axle, ala M5.

Available options for the M3 Touring 

A $17,500 Carbon experience package can be added to the new M3 Touring that sees carbon-fibre fitted to the seats, mirror caps, side inlets and rear diffuser. 

For those wanting more brake performance, the M3 Touring will be available with carbon ceramic anchors as a $16,500 option. 

There are several paint finishes available for the M3 Touring, including black sapphire, portimao blue, toronto red, isle of man green, brooklyn grey, skyscraper grey and aventurine red. These are all no-cost option colours. 

BMW Individual specialty colours are also available for between $2500-$7000 extra.
