Pint-sized electric fun machine locked in locally after Japan Mobility Show debut
Honda Australia has confirmed that its diminutive Super-One hot city hatchback will be coming to Aussie showroom in the second half of 2026, just hours after the production version made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show this week.
Initially teased as the Super EV concept at this year’s Goodwood Festival Of Speed event in the UK, the tiny Super-One is said to be “developed from Japanese Kei car concepts” but with a twist, one that its maker says “marries fun-to-drive dynamics with Honda’s trademark innovation”.
At just 3.6 metres long and 1.6m wide, the Super-One is similar in size to Hyundai’s Inster and Kia’s Picanto, though unlike the Korean rival this Honda is battery electric powered.
Interestingly, to “make the driving experience more exciting”, says Honda, a Boost Mode is featured where the Super-One produces a synthesized “engine sound” complete with faux gearshifts.
While no specific details have been confirmed by Honda Australia, the Super-One follows the electric ‘e’ model offered in overseas markets between 2020 and 2024, which offers 113kW/315Nm outputs with a range of around 220 kilometres from its 35.5kWh battery.
Dynamically, Honda Australia says that the “fun and nimble” Super-One will benefit from some localised chassis tuning, promising “light and direct handling” as well as “composed ride” that ought to be “agile in urban environments”.
The importer goes on to say that the Super-One will launch “following completion of a local testing program”.
While final pricing and specifications have yet to be announced, it’s expected that the Super-One will be priced closer to that of chief rival Inster (from $39,000 list) than the likes of BYD Dolphin (from $29,990 list).
