Highly-anticipated performance variant of all-new Y63 Patrol caught on camera, but Australian launch seems unlikely
Despite launching globally in September 2024, Australia is still waiting to receive the new generation ‘Y63’ Nissan Patrol.
Now, to rub salt in the wound, the UAE looks to be gearing up to receive a Nismo variant alongside the standard model already in their showrooms.
A Patrol Nismo might sound like an odd concept to some, but in overseas markets, it has been offered since 2015.
Unlike a conventional Nismo, the power increase isn’t massive — from 298kW to 319kW — and instead, the Nismo package focuses on enhancing the on-road dynamics, and revamping the interior and exterior. This new Y63 looks to be more of that same concept.
The leaked images show a heavily stylised and enhanced exterior bodykit complete with large wheels, slimline tyres, flared wheelarches, front and rear splitter, and a rear wing.
About as far away as a Nissan Patrol Warrior package as one can get. And given the last Patrol Nismo never came to Oz, this one’s probably unlikely too.
To quench speculation about a glorious return to V8 power, the leaked images clearly show a ‘V6T’ badge adorning the front quarter panels of the elusive new Nismo.
At this time, power and torque outputs have not been confirmed. Will they increase under the Nismo nameplate? Probably, but by how much remains a mystery.
The current generation Y62 Patrol has been on the market in Australia since 2013, currently starting at $90,600 list. Its most tantalising features include a seven-seat capacity, full-time four-wheel drive, 3500kg braked towing capacity, and 272mm ground clearance.
For the new generation of Patrol, Nissan has ditched its iconic 298kW/560Nm 5.6-litre NA V8 in favour of a 3.5-litre turbo-turbocharged petrol V6 with a total output of 317kW and 700Nm.
Nissan has stipulated that this is the sole engine offering Australia will be receiving, despite the prospect of a less powerful 236kW / 386Nm 3.8-litre NA V6 in other markets.
