The seventh generation 2020 Subaru Liberty (Legacy around the world) is due to be unveiled at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show this week, with Subaru revealing a few features of the car thanks to two teaser images that have been released.
Riding on the Subaru Global Architecture that also underpins the Impreza, XV and new Forester, the new Liberty will be more comfortable and dynamic than the current model, and if the teaser images are to be believed, more technologically advanced as well.
The exterior tease image of the 2020 Subaru Liberty reveals a lot about it, especially its evolutionary styling. Like the new Forester, itself offering a fairly evolutionary look taking much from its predecessor, the new Liberty appears to be also taking much from its predecessor – including the pinched headlights, and a very similar glasshouse.
Centrepiece – literally – of the 2020 Subaru Liberty will be a ginormous centre touchscreen with an updated version of Subaru’s StarLink infotainment system. Along with several functions such as digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, as well as satellite navigation, even the climate controls appear to be controlled by the touchscreen, with no buttons surrounding the screen itself. The dashboard itself appears to be covered in leather, while the vertical air vents take much from the Impreza and Forester.
Subaru Australia is yet to confirm any timing to do with the 2020 Subaru Liberty’s local release, though we expect it to launch locally before the end of the year. Engines on offer are expected to be the Forester’s 2.5-litre petrol engine and the new 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine in the North American Ascent SUV.
