Alfa Romeo MiTo Review 2014

Good points

  • Gorgeous looks
  • Punchy, spirited motoring
  • Reasonably sporty handling

Needs work

  • Indecisive automatic
  • Rear seat passenger space
  • Quality of cabin materials

The gorgeous Alfa Romeo MiTo is now better value, and it’s a breath of fresh air from the sameness of many other premium hatchbacks.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo is unapologetically passionate. If you choose to own an Italian car, included in the deal there are inevitable compromises—but ideally, the good times will outweigh the bad. That is the case in the MiTo, which is the smallest Alfa Romeo, and a car that is surprisingly good at almost everything it attempts to achieve. It’s no longer outrageously priced, and instead aligns with competitors like the Audi A1, Volkswagen Golf GTi, and the Mini. While it can’t match those German cars for quality, it often outpaces them in character, looks, and in the sheer fun it can offer on the road.

ChasingCars.com.au borrowed this vehicle for our Alfa Romeo MiTo review:

  • 2014 Alfa Romeo MiTo Distinctive (middle trim), with the 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and six-speed automatic, in Tornado Blue with grey cloth, priced at $29,000 before on-road costs.
