Mazda 6 returns to Australia! All-electric 6e sedan with ‘more than 500km’ of range due mid-2026

Making an unlikely return via unconventional means, Mazda’s much-loved sedan is coming to Australia with pricing expected to land in the $55,000 range

Mazda has confirmed the 6 sedan will return to Australian shores in mid-2026 as an all-electric proposition.

Built under a collaboration with Changan Automotive, the ‘6e’ destined for Australia will be rear-wheel-drive, rather than front, powered by a single 190kW motor.

It’s expected to compete with the likes of the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal and Hyundai Ioniq 6 when it finally lands in Australia, possibly with multiple variants.

It comes after Chasing Cars snapped a prototype of the 6e on Aussie roads amid its official evaluation process.

A 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery sits underneath the floor, which Mazda claims can be recharged from 30 to 80 percent in as little as 15 minutes.

Pricing is expected to start around $55,000 before on-road costs here in Australia, though it’s yet to be confirmed which grade this applies to.

Chasing Cars recently had the opportunity to jump in an early left-hand-drive prototype of the 6e, which you can check out above.
