Electric version of KGM Torres midsize SUV breaks cover, with single, front-drive only trim grade, range of 462km, and sizeable 80.6kWh battery

KGM Australia (formerly SsanYong) has today launched a dedicated electric version of its Torres midsize SUV. Known as the Torres EVX, with a starting price of $58,000 drive-away

This marks a significant $10,000 step-up in price over the once range-topping Torres Hybrid K40, or, a colossal $20,000 premium over the introductory model Torres ELX.

The electric Torres EVX will be available to order from December first, and will primarily contend with the Tesla Model Y, from $58,900 before on-road costs, as well as fellow Korean Kia EV5, which starts from an approachable $56,770.

But where the EV5, Model Y, and close relative Musso EV all offer a grade walk into all-wheel drive, the Torres EVX, like the Torres Hybrid, will market solely as a front-wheel drive.

Power comes from a 152kW/339Nm electric motor paired with a 80.6kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery and 390.4-volt electrical system – identical specifications to the Musso EV – with a claimed driving range of 462km (WLTP), and energy consumption of 18.7kWh/100km.

It’s possible that KGM will introduce an all-wheel driven EVX later on, most likely following the pricing structure of its Musso EV sibling. Optioning AWD on that vehicle costs $4000, and raises peak output to 266kW / 630Nm.

Recharging the Torres EVX from flat-to-full will take around nine-hours on an 11kW AC charger, while rapid 300kW DC charging from 10-80 percent takes a claimed 37 minutes.

The Torres EVX is nearly identical in size to its combustion counterpart. It measures 4715mm long (+10mm), 1890mm wide, 1725mm tall (+5mm), and rides on a 2680mm wheelbase.

Visually, the EVX is unmistakably ‘Torres’, with EV-centric styling cues including narrow LED headlights, a flush front bumper with slim air intakes, redesigned tail lights, blacked-out C-pillars, and an EV-charger flap located on the front left quarter panel.

Inside, the EVX is near-identical to its combustion Torres siblings. Sporting a panoramic display with dual 12.3-inch screens, dual zone AC, heated, ventilated, and power-adjust front seats, heated rear seats, rear privacy glass, and a powered sunroof.

The Torres EVX joins the recently launched Musso EV and Torres Hybrid as part of what KGM calls a long term electrification strategy.

All three vehicles offer significantly reduced vehicle emissions, helping KGM secure NVES credits to be put toward the continued sale of its diesel-powered Musso dual-cab

The Musso ute is KGM’s best selling vehicle, so far establishing 1773 registrations year-to-date. Musso utes produce around 200 grams of CO2/km, where the 2026 NVES emissions limit for ‘Type 2’ light commercial vehicles is earmarked at 180g/km.
