Tesla Model Y 2027: improved performance, cheaper flagship and V2L for Zeekr 7X and BYD Sealion 7 rival

Faster mid-range models, cheaper Performance, but no cheaper base model

The Tesla Model Y has been given an MY27 upgrade that introduces faster mid-range models, a cheaper Performance flagship, and vehicle-to-load technology capability across the board.

Tesla Australia didn’t confirm a new cheaper entry model for the world’s best-selling EV despite announcing a Model 3 base model that cuts entry price to the sedan by $9000.

At the top of the range, the Model Y Performance drops by $4500 to $84,900 before on-road costs thanks to production moving from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin to Gigafactory Shanghai.

Model Y Performance buyers won’t all save that amount as paints are now an individual cost option on the flagship variant. Paints costing between $1500 and $2600 were previously included in the Performance’s price.

The Performance adds choice with a Glacier Blue exterior paint and Zen Grey interior available.

Mid-range Model Y variants, the Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive and the six-seater L Premium, both improve their claimed 0-100km/h acceleration times.

Each shaves half a second on their previous claims, with the Premium Long Range now quoted at 4.3 seconds and the L at 4.5 seconds.

There are no price changes for the mid-range Model Y trims which are rivals for the BYD Sealion 7, Zeekr 7X and a host of other medium electric SUVs.

Tesla has also made its ‘Power Share’ vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability available on all models where it was previously limited to specific variants. Unlike some other EVs, it requires the purchase of a separate adaptor.

The MY27 Model Y range is available for ordering from today, with deliveries starting later this month (October).
