Due to go on sale in the coming weeks, Volkswagen’s relatively compact seven-seat SUV has been priced for the Australian market
Volkswagen has confirmed pricing for its new Tayron model, with the five- or seven-seat SUV replacing the Tiguan Allspace sold previously in Australia.
Similar to its predecessor, it shares much of its exterior design and interior with the recently updated Tiguan midsize SUV, with the Tayron stretched to 4.8 metres to better accommodate additional passengers.
Pricing starts at $48,290 before on-road costs for the seven-seat 110TSI Life, offering a keener entry point than its chief rival and sibling vehicle in the Skoda Kodiaq Select ($54,990).
The sole five-seat option in the Tayron range, the 150TSI Life, steps up the boot capacity from 850L to 885L in two-row configuration, with a price of $53,990 before on-roads.
Volkswagen’s better-equipped 150TSI Elegance follows at $59,490 and the range is led by the performance-focused 195TSI R-Line at $73,490.
The Tayron offers an unusually strong 2500kg braked towing limit on 150TSI and 195TSI grades, with the new model due to go on sale in the coming weeks.
The entry-level, seven-seat 110TSI Life is offered with a 1.4L turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine producing 110kW/250Nm, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels exclusively.
Standard specification includes 18-inch alloy wheels, 12.9-inch touchscreen with DAB+ digital radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with a wireless phone charger, power tailgate and keyless entry.
Safety features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forwards AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, front and rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, a 360-degree camera and parking sensors along with a suite of nine airbags.
Removing the third row and adding a 150kW 2.0L turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system, the 150TSI Life chases practicality with a 885L boot, offering a step up over seven-seat models.
The equipment list is otherwise the same, however.
Reverting to a seven-seat setup but retaining AWD, the Elegance adds larger 19-inch alloy wheels, chrome roof rails, rear privacy glass, more advanced LED headlights, a heated steering wheel along with leather upholstery and heated, ventilated and power adjustable front seats with a massage function.
A $4200 Sound and Vision Package includes a larger 15.0-inch touchscreen, HD Matrix LED headlights, a head-up display and a Harmon Kardon sound system. A panoramic sunroof can also be added for an additional $2100.
Boosting power and torque to 195kW/400Nm, the 195TSI R-Line adds larger 20-inch wheels and progressive steering, along with HD Matrix LED headlights and unique LED tail-lights.
The Harmon Kardon sound system, head-up display and larger 15-inch infotainment system found in the optioned-up Elegance are packaged in as standard here, though the panoramic sunroof remains a $2100 option.
A $1500 Black Style package is available exclusively on this grade, adding the expected dark accent on areas such as the 20-inch alloy wheels, mirror caps, roof rails and bumpers along with a matching black/dark anodised finish inside the cabin.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
