Corolla Cross facelift priced from $37,440 sporting revised interior and hybrid drivetrain
The facelifted Toyota Corolla Cross small SUV will arrive in showrooms on July 24, with base GX and ritzy Atmos trims landing first. The mid-spec GXL, alongside a new GR Sport flagship variant, will land later in the year.
Toyota has applied a blanket price increase of $960 across the range. This means the base model GX Hybrid 2WD will now start at $37,440 before on-road costs, while the range topping Atmos AWD increases to $50,990.
The upcoming facelift is largely cosmetic, with some comfort and convenience changes inside.
Toyota Australia is yet to confirm exact changes and share images of all trims. In the UK, the biggest visual change to the updated Corolla Cross is new front and rear clips.
What has been confirmed is a new front grille for all grades, and new LED headlight designs for GXL models and above. Five new paint colours have also been confirmed, as well as an optional two tone black roof, likely to be exclusive to the Atmos and GR-Sport.
Toyota has additionally claimed to add wireless phone charging along with seat heating and ventilation to more grades, though has not detailed which ones yet.
European-delivered Corolla Crosses also benefit from greater sound deadening and enhanced structural rigidity — it’s yet to be confirmed if Australia gets the same changes.
Currently, the introductory model Corolla Cross GX is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, 8.0-inch touchscreen touchscreen, and a six-speaker sound system.
Moving up to the GXL grade brings “high-grade” LED headlights, front fog lights, roof rails, splashes of leather upholstery — including on the gearknob and steering wheel — a larger 10.5-inch screen, dual-zone climate control and additional USB-C charging ports.
The Atmos has larger 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, a panoramic moon roof, powered bootlid, leather upholstery, seat heating, power adjust front seats, wireless phone charger and upsized 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Headlining the mid-life Corolla Cross facelift is the new GR-Sport variant, priced from $50,990. Its Q4 arrival will bring sportier steering and suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels and a more aggressive-looking front bumper design with mesh grille.
Inside, the cabin adopts red stitching for various sections, including the seats, and a steering wheel that also features a GR Sport logo. Once again, the GR-Sport badge means changes are limited to cosmetic, with a 146kW output for all six facelifted Corolla Cross models.
Toyota dropped regular 2.0-litre petrol variants from the Corolla Cross when it chose to go hybrid-only for all non-GR passenger cars in June 2024.
The GR-Sport Corolla Cross joins a niche of performance branded vehicles within the compact SUV segment. The GR-Sport directly rivals the $46,500 Hyundai Kona Hybrid Premium N-Line and $54,365 (all before on-road costs) Nissan Qashqai N-Design e-Power.
In 2024, Toyota delivered 8902 Corolla Cross small SUVs – less than half of the 22,629 figure posted by the segment leading MG ZS, and trailing far behind fellow Japanese rival, the Mazda CX-30 (12,672 units).
