New Tesla Model Y ‘L’ priced from $74,900, featuring three-row seating, an extended body, and a driving range of 681km
Tesla has priced its extended-body, six seat Model Y L from $74,900 before on-road costs, with initial deliveries to commence in April.
External dimensions and wheelbase for the Tesla ‘L’ have been lengthened, pushing the large Model Y into the large vehicle segment. It measures 4969mm long (up 177mm), 1982mm wide, and 1668mm tall (+44mm), driving on an extended wheelbase of 3040mm (+150mm).
The Model Y L breaks new ground for Tesla, serving as its first six-seater to rival large, premium EVs like the $124,990 before on-road costs Volvo EX90, $97,000 Kia EV9, and $119,750 Hyundai Ioniq 9.
Now with local pricing from $74,900, the Model Y L shows great prospect in the large EV segment, undercutting its closest priced-rival the Kia EV9 Air by over $20,000.
But unlike the base model Kia electric, the Tesla ‘L’ features dual-electric motors, with a claimed combined output of 378kW and 590Nm – ahead of the 330kW dual-motor Volvo.
With a kerb weight of 2088kg, the new Model Y can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds. It claims a top speed of 201km/h.
The Model Y ‘L’ claims a driving range of 681km (WLTP), with 400-Volt architecture and a DC charge peak of 250kW.
Battery size and charge times are yet to be confirmed locally – expect an 82kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt unit with a 10 to 80 percent charge time under 30 minutes.
The Model Y L debuts exclusive features to the Australian market, including a six-seat ‘captains chairs’ interior layout, 19-speaker sound system (3 additional speakers over any other Model Y), and vehicle-to-load capability up to 3.3kWh.
Externally, the L features exclusive new 19-inch ‘Machina 2.0’ aero-wheels, a re-designed C-pillar to increase passenger headroom, a new ‘Cosmic Silver’ exterior colour, and a wrap-around spoiler with an integrated brake light.
It shares a 16.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and 8.0-inch rear passenger touchscreen with all other Model Y variants.
Inside the L, all seats are power-adjustable, with a one-touch second and third-row folding function providing a boot volume of 2539 litres.
Tesla has additionally confirmed the Model Y L features a five-star ANCAP safety rating, and will come with a 5-year unlimited km vehicle warranty and 8 year warranty for the high-voltage battery.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
