EX2 small electric hatchback from Geely will make its debut at the Melbourne Motor Show as newfound rival to BYD Atto 1 and GAC Aion UT

Geely has confirmed it will release its EX2 electric hatchback in Australia by the end of 2026, with an exclusive first look pencilled for the Melbourne Motor Show.

In China, the Geely EX2 starts from 68,800 yuan (~$AUD14,300) before on-road costs for the Youth Edition, and tops out at 98,800 yuan (~$20,500AUD) for the Star Limited Edition. There are six configurations of EX2 in total, split across two LFP battery sizes.

In Australia, expect pricing to fall within the realm of $25-35,000 before on road costs, in-line with close rivals $23,990 BYD Atto 1, $30,990 drive-away GAC Aion UT, and forthcoming MG2.

All variants of Geely EX2 are rear-wheel drive, with cheaper models using a 30.1kWh battery and motor outputs of 58kW/130Nm good for a driving range of about 310km. Costlier variants produce 85kW/150Nm, and are paired with a 40.2kWh battery for a driving range of 410km

Importantly, the above range claims are held to a less stringent CLTC testing standard, and may be reduced in reality.

The EX2 is built on Geely’s Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, shared with the EX5 medium EV and Starray midsized PHEV already on sale locally. Charging the EX2 from 30-80 percent takes 21 minutes, peaking at 70kW DC, while AC charging peaks at 6.6kW.

The Geely EX2 measures 4135mm long, 1805mm wide, and 1570mm tall, driving on a wheelbase of 2650mm. It is dimensionally similar to the Yaris Cross, with all measurements within 50mm to those of the Toyota.

Local market specifications are yet to be confirmed. If the EX2 is to share similar features to its Chinese counterpart, expect a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and 50W device charger inside, and power tailgate, flush door handles, and a suite of LED brightwork on the outside.

The Geely EX2 is known in China as the Geely Geome Xingyuan, and sold in huge volumes last year. Its total Chinese-market sales figure of 465,775 units accounted for about 1.7-percent of China’s fierce new car market, and earned it the position of China’s best selling car for 2025.

For context, there were 1,241,037 new vehicle sales in Australia last year, led by the Ford Ranger with a more modest swing of 56,555 units – about 4.6-percent of the total market.
