Sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 sees pricing increase across the board, with the hybrid-only midsize SUV now starting from $45,990
Toyota Australia has confirmed the pricing and specifications for its 2026 RAV4, which is set to go on sale early next year.
The new RAV4 will start at $45,990 before on-road costs for the base model GX FWD hybrid – $3730 more than it was previously – and will top out with the new 227kW plug-in hybrid RAV4 GR Sport AWD at $66,340 before on-roads.
The plug-in hero raises the RAV4 price ceiling by nearly $8000 over the previous RAV4 Edge AWD, while other grades see price increases between $3000 and $6000.
Toyota’s front-driven, series parallel grade walk consists of the $45,990 GX, $48,990 GXL, and $56,990 Cruiser. These models see a price increase of $3730, $3180, and $5580 respectively over their outgoing MY25 equivalent.
Optioning all-wheel drive for these vehicles costs an additional $3350, priced from $49,340 (up $4080), $52,340 (up $3530), and $60,340 (up $5930), respectively.
All-wheel drive exclusive plugless RAV4 models consist of the $55,340 Edge and $58,340 XSE. The MY26 Edge sees a price reduction of $3020 over its MY25 equivalent, while the XSE’s price increases by $5755.
Toyota will additionally market three new plug-in hybrid RAV4 variants. The drivetrain, which offers a 22.7kWh battery capable of 50kW DC charging, is offered in front- and all-wheel drive, beginning with $58,840 XSE.
Optioning all-wheel drive costs an additional $4500, marking $63,340 for the XSE AWD. Toyota’s flagship GR Sport is exclusively all-wheel drive, and begins at $66,340.
Where plugless RAV4 models will contend with updated Nissan X-Trail ePower variants, Subaru Forester Hybrids, and Kia Sportage HEVs, plug-in RAV4s find rivalry with the recently revised Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, competitively priced BYD Sealion 6, and re-tuned Mazda CX-60 PHEV.
New exterior styling, more powerful drivetrains, revised interiors and a suite of revised driver safety aids headline the launch of the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4.
Most RAV4 models employ a series-parallel hybrid system paired with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol ‘four. The system produces a combined system output of 143kW in front- or all-wheel configuration.
Plug-in RAV4 variants use the same 2.5-litre engine paired with a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery and a choice of single or dual electric motors. The front-driven single electric motor PHEV produces 200kW, while the AWD dual-motor PHEVs produce 227kW.
Toyota’s PHEV battery supports 50kW DC charging and 11kW AC charging. We expect to see PHEV models produce an EV-only driving range of around 100km (WLTP).
Toyota will market 11 unique grades of RAV4 for 2026, with both series-parallel and plug-in hybrid, along with a choice of front-wheel or all wheel drive.
The range will retain GX, GXE, XSE, Cruiser and Edge grades while adding PHEV-exclusive GR-Sport and XSE variants.
Standard equipment on the base model front- or all-wheel-drive GX includes a 360-degree camera, 10.5-inch multimedia touchscreen, six-speaker audio, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED auto-levelling headlamps, 12.3-inch digital cluster and dual-zone climate control.
All-wheel drive exclusive features include an additional rear electric motor, hill-descent control, and Trail / Snow drive modes. These features are shared with all AWD models.
Exclusive to the base GX is the $300 option to exchange the temporary spare to a full-size unit.
Stepping to the front- or all-wheel-drive GXL grants 18-inch alloy wheels, privacy rear and side glass, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, rain sensing wipers and a wireless device charger.
Regardless of drive type or hybridisation, XSE-badged MY26 RAV4 models will feature 20-inch alloy wheels, black wheel arches and bumpers, moonroof, synthetic leather and suede upholstery, heated, ventilated and eight-way powered front seats, and two-tone paint.
Topping off the RAV4 range is the front or all-wheel-drive Cruiser flagship version, which features unique 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded LED headlamps, panoramic roof, heated outboard rear seats, leather-accented seat trim, head-up display, two wireless device chargers, a digital rearview mirror and a nine-speaker JBL audio system.
Toyota’s all-wheel-drive only, off-road ready RAV4 — the Edge — slots between the GXL and XSE. It exclusively features ‘Edge’ front and rear bumpers, wider wheel arches, skid plate, heated front seats, power tailgate and larger 12.9-inch touchscreen.
In a similar vein, the all-wheel drive only GR Sport is not quite a flagship, but unique in its own right.
Standout features include GR-themed front and rear bumpers, rear spoiler, 20-inch alloy wheels, nine-speaker JBL audio, dual wireless device chargers, aluminium pedals, paddle shifters, and unique GR Sport seats, knee pads and steering wheel.
Performance enhancements to the RAV4 GR Sport include a 20mm wider tread, performance front dampers, rear chassis brace, revised suspension spring rates, and a unique steering tune for a more direct response.
All 2026 RAV4 models additionally benefit from a suite of safety features, as part of the next-generation ‘Toyota Safety Sense’, which includes front cross-traffic alert, lane trace assist and pre-collision safety.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
