EV maker Deepal’s strange new ute-cum-SUV arrives with sharp pricing and plenty of punch
Chinese carmaker Deepal has confirmed pricing and features for its quirky, genre-busting E07 electric vehicle.
A melange of ute, SUV and coupe, the E07 launches in electric-only guise with a 90kWh battery, up to 440kW from a twin-motor AWD system, active air suspension, and the ability to convert its rear load space into an under-star sleeping area.
Imported by Inchcape (known for taking care of Subaru and Peugeot in Australia) the E07 joins the S07 medium SUV, ahead of another all-electric medium SUV — the S05 — arriving later this year.
Pricing starts at $64,900 for the entry level RWD and climbs to $73,900, both before on-road costs.
In truth, the E07 may have some ute aspects but it’s not really a Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux rival. Nor is it strictly a BYD Shark 6 challenger.
With its Nappa leather upholstery, air suspension and monocoque construction, the E07 has more parallels with medium SUVs like the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7.
Styling even gives it parallels to the Tesla Cybertruck, while execution is arguably closer to a Subaru Brumby or a Holden Commodore ute.
The Deepal E07 measures 5045mm long, 1996mm wide, and 1680mm tall, with a 3120mm wheelbase. It weighs between 2320kg (RWD) and 2440kg (AWD) with up to 621kg payload and 1500kg braked tow rating.
The entry Deepal E07 RWD is fitted with the following standard features.
Paying $9000 more for the AWD is mostly about punch and control.
Both trims feature the power-operable expandable load bay, which drops various pieces of glass, the rear bulkhead and seats in a lengthy motor-driven process to increase the 524L boot into a bay that is 1865mm long and 1100 mm wide with a 15-degree recline.
Additionally, the AWD is available in special paint colours, with Spessartite Orange and Matte Hematite Grey attracting an $1800 premium. The orange upholstery is a $500 option.
For peace of mind, Deepal importer Inchcape promises solid after-sales support for the E07 including a seven-year/160,000km vehicle warranty, and an eight-year/240,000km battery warranty.
Service pricing is capped for the first seven years with maintenance due annually, or every 20,000km. Deepal also includes 12 months of roadside assistance.
