Suzuki Baleno loses turbo engine for 2019

Suzuki Australia has continued its product update offensive after introducing both a new Jimny and Vitara to local showrooms. Latest in line for an update is the 2019 Suzuki Baleno hatchback, which has received a price cut in the top spec GLX model thanks to the canning of the 2018 model’s 1.0-litre turbocharged engine.

Now featuring the same 68kW/130Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and 4-speed automatic transmission as the lesser Baleno GL, the Baleno GLX has had a price cut from $22,990 plus on-road costs to just $18,990 plus on-road costs.

Suzuki Australia General Manager – Automobile, Mr. Michael Pachota said the introduction of the updated Baleno continues to solidify Suzuki’s unbeatable value in the segment.

“The introduction of the updated Baleno GLX confirms Suzuki’s commitment to great value vehicles by bringing the entire Baleno range under $19,990 drive away, complementing our strong presence in the light car segment for private buyers.”

Formerly using an 82kW/160Nm 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, the 2019 Suzuki Baleno GLX uses the same 68kW/130Nm 1.4-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine as the rest of the Baleno range. According to Suzuki, it uses 5.4L/100km on a combined cycle.

Despite a price and engine cut, the Baleno GLX continues with the same equipment as before, which includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and satellite navigation, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic headlights with LED daytime running lights, front foglights, keyless entry and start and climate control. Note the absence of active safety equipment such as autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning – we hope they appear on the Australian Baleno soon.
