Suzuki Jimny 3-Door returning to Oz in early 2026 with safety upgrades and new interior tech

New safety-compliant version of the cult 4×4 to hit showrooms a year after coming off sale for ADR infringements

Suzuki Australia has today confirmed that the popular three-door version of its compact Jimny 4×4 wagon will return to local showrooms in early 2026 after the model was taken off sale in March 2025 due to a lack of compliance with a change in the Australian Design Rules.

In short, both Jimny and Jimny Lite three-door versions will arrive locally in February 2026, bringing “updates focused on safety, technology and driver convenience,” says Suzuki Australia, after production of local allotment of the Japanese-sourced model was paused in early 2025.

The main update – and impetus for reintroduction into the Australian market – is the fitment of Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II), a system that is compliant with ADR 98/00 that came into effect in March 2025 and knocked the old three-door off the market.

Other driver assistance features that have been introduced to Jimny 3-Door “while we awaited updates to meet ADR compliance requirements,” says Suzuki, include lane departure prevention and adaptive cruise control. Front and rear parking sensors will now be available on this model.

Elsewhere, the Jimny lineup gets a multimedia boost, with the regular version fitting a 9.0-inch touchscreen system offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Jimny Lite will feature a similar system using a smaller 7.0-inch screen. No pictures have yet been provided.

All isn’t apples for nostalgia buffs: the Jimny Lite will no longer fit a CD player, “previously making it one of the last new vehicles in Australia still to offer one,” its importer claims.

The three-door line will re-enter the local market from $31,990 before on-road costs for the Jimny Lite. Meanwhile, the regular Jimny 3-Door manual will list for $33,990, while the automatic rounds out options in this body style from $36,490 list.

The Jimny 3-Door will join the Indian-sourced Jimny XL five-door in showrooms, the latter not affected by changes in ADRs through 2025 though a model subject to its own, somewhat mysterious sales halt mid this year that found the stretched version removed from sale for around a month.

Suzuki Australia did not disclose a reason for the sale pause back in September 2025, short of affirming that “there are no concerns regarding the Jimny XL’s quality, safety, performance or (ADR) compliance,” at the time.
