Geely-owned Polestar has confirmed a price cut for its upgraded ‘3’ medium SUV ahead of its mid-year launch, but stock issues not yet resolved

Polestar has confirmed its upgraded ‘3’ medium electric rival to the Lexus RZ and Audi Q6 e-tron will start from $116,700 before on-road costs in Long Range single-motor guise. That’s down $1720, despite a sizable mechanical update inbound later this year.

Pricing for the ‘3’ LR dual-motor and Performance will also decrease, now from $131,100 (down $5120) and $146,700 (down $1220) respectively. No Polestar 3 variant sits below the current Luxury Car Tax threshold of $91,387, despite weak demand existing above this price point.

Set to debut by mid-year, the upgraded Polestar 3 will feature a shift from 400-800V architecture, increased DC charging peaks, faster charge times, and improved combined outputs.

The 3 Rear Motor will exchange its 107kWh battery for a new 92kWh CATL unit, with driving range decreasing from 706km to 604km WLTP. Combined output improves, now 245kW/480Nm, as does rapid 10-80-percent DC charge time, now 22 minutes, thanks to an improved charging peak of 310kW

The middle-spec 3 Long Range Dual Motor features a 106kWh CATL battery and claims a driving range of 635km WLTP. It now outputs 400kW/700Nm, with an improved peak DC charge rating of 350kW.

The range-topping 3 Performance Dual Motor features a 106kWh CATL battery and a combined output of 500kW/870Nm — a new benchmark for Polestar. Driving range is resultantly lower than the Long Range, at 593km, with a peak DC charge rate of 350kW.

Combined efficiency for both Dual Motor Polestar 3 variants is quoted as 23.4kWh/100km, while the Rear Motor sees a more efficient figure of 21.6kWh/100km. Both WLTP.

All three vehicle variants will additionally gain Polestar’s Plus pack as standard equipment. The package was previously a $9,000 option.

The Plus package includes additional features such as Bowers & Wilkins active road noise cancellation and head rest speakers, heads-up display, power-operated steering column, Soft-close doors, and a foldable boot floor.

Other model-year tweaks inbound for the Polestar 3 include a new steering tune, updated anti-roll bars and a more powerful NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin processor, the latter being offered as a free retrofit for existing customers.

Small changes have been made to the options structure, with adaptive air suspension now standard only for the Performance grade and cost-optional for the Dual Motor.

Interior styling tweaks will make it easier to differentiate between Polestar 3 trim grades, with seat belt colour being solid black for Rear motor, black and gold for the Dual motor, and all gold for the Performance.

A new Prime pack combines the oft-ordered Pilot, Plus and Climate packs while standard seat upholstery becomes recycled MicroTech fabric with nappa leather remaining a costly option.

Polestar Australia has confirmed that the ‘3’ will hit showrooms by the second half of year, though offers no further specific timing.
