China’s Xpeng confirms it will release the G9 large SUV and X9 MPV in H2 2026, previewed by a new-generation G6 midsize SUV, due imminently
Xpeng has confirmed a significant portion of its MY26 product rollout, detailing launch information for its next-gen G6 midsize electric SUV, X9 large people mover, and G9 – referred to in recent media as the G9L – large flagship SUV.
First on the chopping block will be the G6 midsize electric, currently on sale in Australia, which will reportedly be upgraded to a new generation late into the first quarter of 2026.
In China, the updated Xpeng is already available, with significant changes including new front and rear clip, wheel designs, slightly larger 10.25-inch cluster, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, and a larger battery – now 68.5kWh.
Many of these enhancements will likely make their way into the Australian market.
The ‘new G6’ is already complied with Australian Design Regulations, and has been spied by being tested on Australian roads. It is much more likely that the forthcoming G6 is an update on the current model, rather than an entirely new generation.
Next to arrive will be Xpeng’s seven-seat X9 people-mover, slated to debut locally in the second quarter of 2026.
Few local specifications for the X9 are available, with the exception of a 23-speaker sound system, second row ‘captains chairs’ with electronic adjustment, massage and recline, standard-equipped rear-axle steering, and ‘XPNG’ driver assistance functionality.
In China, the X9 measures 5293mm long, 1988mm wide, and 1785mm tall, with a 3160mm wheelbase. It offers a choice of 84.5kWh LFP or 101.5kWh NMC battery, producing a WLTP range of 500 or 590km respectively.
Rapid 10-80 DC charging takes 20 minutes, peaking at either 283kW (85.4kWh) or 317kW (101.5kWh). AC charging peaks at 11kW for both battery sizes.
Irrespective of battery choice, the X9 is front-wheel drive, featuring 800-volt electronic architecture and a combined output of 235kW / 450Nm. Expect local specs to be similar.
Last on Xpeng’s early Christmas wishlist is its large G9 electric flagship SUV, set to launch in next year’s fourth quarter. We note that recent reports from Xpeng refer to this vehicle as ‘G9L’ — it is presumed the two vehicles are one in the same, with ‘L’ likely a designation for ‘long wheelbase’.
Xpeng has teased some local specifications for its G9/G9L ahead of its Q4 launch, including a WLTP range of 570km, choice of rear or all-wheel drive, a rapid 10-80 percent DC charge time of 20 minutes (with 300kW peak), and air suspension for premium trim-grades.
Other local features to debut include soft-close doors, 22-speaker sound system, a suite of driver safety aids, electronic seat adjustment front and rear (with optional heat and massage), and Nappa leather interior trim.
Also announced by Xpeng were ‘two to three additional Xpeng vehicles’ likely for Australia. The currently unknown models are set to arrive ‘in the long term’.
Jason Clarke, CEO of TrueEV (Xpeng’s local importer) divulged; “These new vehicles reflect XPENG’s long-term ambitions for the Australian market.”
Further information on Xpeng’s new models, including local market specification, is yet to be disclosed. An official announcement from Xpeng regarding its X9 MPV is expected in the first quarter of 2026, with another for the G9 SUV to follow in the third quarter.
