Performance-luxury spin and 448kW/740Nm hopes to bring a sporty edge to Genesis and boost the fortunes of its niche electric SUV
Genesis has revealed its hottest GV60 to date, premiering its new high-performance Magma version at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France.
Technically similar to Hyundai’s mighty Ioniq 5 N, the new dual-motor Magma boasts 448kW and 740Nm, trumping the current flagship GV60 Performance Lux’s 360kW/700Nm. Locally, the debut Magma model would easily be the most powerful Genesis vehicle sold in Australia.
The Genesis GV60 Magma can further its power output to 478kW/790Nm with ‘Boost Mode’ activated, for a burst of up to 15 seconds. With the added performance of ‘Boost Mode’, the GV60 Magma can sprint from 0 to 200km/h in 10.9 seconds.
Not only are these identical outputs to sister company Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N, the two vehicles are much the same under the skin, utilising the same Hyundai-sourced 800-volt Electric-Global Modular Platform.
While local specifications for the GV60 Magma are not yet available, we anticipate specifications will be very similar to the Ioniq 5 N, using an 84kWh battery and a combined range of around 448km (WLTP).
Hyundai claims a rapid DC charge from 10-80 percent takes 16 minutes, peaking at 350kW, while three-phase 11kW AC charging from 0-100 percent is said to take around eight hours.
External enhancements confirmed for the GV60 Magma include a wider stance, 20mm lower ride height, new side skirts, revised front and rear bumpers, a wing and a diffuser, several gloss black external touch-ups, and ‘Magma’ 21-inch forged wheels wearing 275mm tyres.
The GV60 Magma also gains a rear electronic limited-slip differential, three drive modes, performance-tuned suspension with Electronic Control, larger brake rotors paired with front monoblock calipers and performance pads, drift mode, and on-demand simulated gear changes.
Inside, the GV60 Magma sports Chamude (described by Genesis as a ‘premium suede-like material’) on the seats, doors and centre console, a head-up display, signature orange and gray stitching and seatbelts, revised gloss black switchgear, and a Magma-exclusive sports steering wheel.
The new, more-powerful GV60 will roll out to Korean markets by the end of 2025, with European and North American deliveries to follow in early 2026. It’s expected that the GV60 Magma will arrive locally in 2026.
Expect the forthcoming Aussie Magma to command a higher price than the $113,384 and $114,383 before on-road cost benchmarks set by the current range topper Genesis GV60 Performance Lux DSM and twin-under-the-skin Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
Debuting the Genesis GV60 Magma in Australia could help the Korean flagship brand secure much needed GV60 sales over rivals Mercedes-AMG EQE and larger BMW iX M60, helping to establish the 10-year-old brand on equal footing with heritage Germans.
Last year, Genesis sold just 70 GV60s, while year-to-date in 2025, only 15 GV60’s have been delivered.
