MG4 XPower: Australian release imminent as first 200 cars land

The flagship all-wheel drive MG4 will bring affordable performance to rival the hottest of hatchbacks on sale in Australia

MG Australia has confirmed that its new MG4 XPower will arrive in Australia starting this month.

More than 200 MG4 XPowers are set to arrive in over 90 dealerships across Australia to act either as demonstrators or to fulfill customer pre-orders, a spokesperson for the brand said.

Australian pricing has been locked in at $59,990 before on-road costs, making it one of the most high performance vehicles you can get in Australia for the price. For context, the Audi RS3 features a similar acceleration time and starts from $89,800 before on-road costs.

The MG4 has undercut the top-spec Tesla Model 3 dual-motor ($71,900) and the Polestar 2 dual-motor with performance pack, which costs a significant $85,400 before on-road costs.

What exactly is the MG4 XPower?

The MG4 XPower is the flagship offering in the MG4 range, and unlike the rest of the lineup, it features dual-motor all-wheel drive, rather than rear-wheel drive.

Two motors feature for the XPower, a 150kW front motor and a 170kW rear motor. Combined outputs are 320kW/600Nm. Individual torque figures for the motors are not stated.

That makes the 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder Audi RS3 a little less powerful, at 298kW/500Nm

For reference, the MG4 and Audi RS3 have the same sprightly 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds.
